What Are The Risks Of Disease From Pigeon Poop

One of the bigger problems of having pigeons on your property is the very real risk of a pigeon poop disease. There are a few diseases that can be spread when you have pigeons in a particular area. They do not necessarily come from the poop itself but rather from the bacteria and the fungus that can grow when the poop is there for some time. There are close to 60 diseases which pigeons can spread through their droppings. Most of them spread through the air after the droppings dry up and are taken by the wind, so the most important thing is to keep the pigeons away and to clean the area right away.

Most of the pigeon poop disease infections are rare and other factors are needed in order for a person to get infected, but that does not mean that you should take a risk. The people who are at risk usually are the ones that have a compromised immune system or people who are in an area where they are exposed to the pigeon droppings a lot. Young children and the elderly are also more likely to be infected by such diseases so special attention is needed in those cases.
